Why Do Students Limit Themselves?

In our country, students mostly limit themselves by taking up science group after their tenth standard and very few students, who mostly have scored lesser marks in their tenth take up commerce or arts group. Nobody likes to explore the possibilites of career in Commerce or Arts. After twelfth, Engineering and medicine is the only option for most of them. Now there is hype about information technology (IT). Today most of them want to work only in IT Sector and the main reason of choosing this is money or working in abroad. Nobody thinks about Job Satisfaction. All they want is their paycheck to be bigger. Why do students limit themselves when they can explore various career avenues? Teaching, Law, Journalism, Armed Forces, Civil Services, Chartered Accountancy, Fashion Technology, Retail Management, Banking, Merchant Navy, Television, Films, Apparel Designing, Interior Decoration, Sportsperson, Politics, Entreprenaurship, Hotel Management, Agriculture etc. I feel, government can do one thing is that there shouldn’t be any salary gap, who is working as an IT Professional or in a Hotel or in any other profession. Then we could see students taking up courses depending upon their interest.

One of my cousin was recently completed his tenth and was confused, what to do in life? He is state level player in Chess and wants to continue his career with that also. I did explain him about various careers. He was mostly planning to do Commerce but at last moment he took computer science because his friends told him, poor students take up commerce and everybody today is taking up computer scisnce. I understand, it is very important for everybody to know computers but I don’t agree everybody needs to be an IT Professional. We don’t want a situation, where supply is more then demand. Its already very competitive environment. Parents also need to give students more options of career and help them to decide. They shouldn’t limit their children just to Engineering or Medicine. There are many other career options and students can do well in that also. I always believe students should follow their heart.
